"Love art in yourself and not yourself in art." - Konstantine Stanislavski

"Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you still have one."  - Stella Adler

"The actor cheats with his own flesh and blood all those things which all the arts try in some way to describe." - Lee Strasberg

It is believed the Greek Poet Thespis founded the art of drama in about 600 B.C.  It was this poet's idea to add the use of masks and makeup to a reading, so it's no wonder that in todays world an actor is commonly known as a "Thespian."  Another Greek, Aeschylus, introduced the idea of adding a second actor, as well as costumes and scenery.  Then, it was the great Sophocles who added a third actor and made intricate plots possible.  Cut to 2500 years later and this art form is enjoyed by millions of people around the world!
